Wildfire Update
The evacuation order remains in full effect. Alberta Wildfire has communicated that fire SWF 063 movement was minimal today. Generally, there was 10 mm of rain across the fire today and another 20 mm is forecasted overnight. Fire behaviour should be minimal for the next few days. Heavy equipment continued to consolidate the line on the south end of fire SWF 063 and good progress was made. Hand crews continued to support this work and manage hot spots and flare-ups.
In Town it rained through the afternoon picking up stronger into this evening. The local fire department and mutual aid crews continued to set up temporary fire suppression (water tanks, etc.). These rainy conditions are improving the risk north of the community.
All utilities such as power, gas, water and sewer remained on with no changes today. As conditions improve, we continue to discuss with Alberta Wildfire on when people may be allowed back. Hopefully not too much longer.
We urge any evacuees who have not registered to register at the Reception Centre in Barrhead or by phone at 1-825-977-4382 or 1-825-977-1462. We want to continue to remind evacuees that Barrhead is the registered reception centre for the town. We want to send out a big thank you to our municipal partners in Barrhead who have been amazing. The resources and dedication it takes to set up a reception center in such a short time like they did is truly amazing.
Thanks to all residents for your understanding and compassion towards each other during this challenging time.
